We are delighted to welcome Vasiliki Tsagkroni who is the project’s new postdoctoral Research Associate. Vasiliki recently completed her PhD on the communications strategies of radical right parties at Queen Mary University London. She replaces Conor Little, who is taking up a position as a Danish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow at the University Copenhagen.
Robert Ladrech, Neil Carter and Conor Little recently presented a paper at the ECPR General Conference in Glasgow and at the EPOP conference in Edinburgh. You can download a copy of the paper here and the Powerpoint presentation here. The paper presents a new approach to measuring parties’ positions on climate policy and then, drawing on case studies, including elite interviews, it examines the factors that led to variation in the strength of parties’ climate policy positions in Denmark, Italy and the UK since 2001. Thanks to all panel participants for their useful comments.
Robert Ladrech presented a paper from his project on social democratic parties and climate policy at the Conference of the European Union Studies Association, Boston in March 2011. Drawing on interviews with key figures in social democratic parties in five EU countries, it identifies some of the constraints that have prevented these parties from developing strong positions on climate change mitigation. You can download the paper here.
